Dale Phelps is a retired orthopedic surgeon who went back to school at the
University of
Northern Iowa to obtain a BFA in printmaking after retirement. He was raised in
Waterloo,
Iowa and attended the
University of
Iowa for both his BA and MD degrees. He served his internship at the
Santa Clara
County
Hospital and residencies in
San Francisco and
Omaha. He practiced orthopedics for 28 years in
Waterloo,
Iowa.
Towards the end of his career he started taking classes part time at the
University of
Northern Iowa, Department of Art. In December of 2005 he graduated with a BFA.
He has had artwork shown at the International Animals in Art Juried Show held in
Louisiana
State
University,
Baton Rouge
LA and local
Iowa
Art Museums.
